In 1935, George MacEwan formed MacEwan Insurance Agency. George’s son, Peter S. MacEwan, purchased the business in 1952. In 1973, the business name changed to “Peter S. MacEwan Insurance” and in 1978, Peter’s daughter, Beth Feagan (MacEwan) joined the family business.
In 1981, ownership of the business transferred to Peter’s wife, Jean MacEwan, and their daughter, Beth. Peter’s son, Scott MacEwan, joined the business in 1989.
Peter MacEwan’s brother, Don MacEwan, owned an insurance brokerage firm in Goderich called “Banter & MacEwan Insurance Brokers Ltd” with John Banter. Beth Feagan and Scott MacEwan purchased Don MacEwan’s portion of this business in 1992 when Don retired. Shortly afterwards, Jean MacEwan also retired. The brokerage firm was renamed “Banter, MacEwan, Feagan Insurance Brokers (BMF) Ltd”.
John Banter retired in 2002. The business is currently owned by Beth Feagan, Paul Feagan, Scott MacEwan, and Mary Jo MacEwan.
